Guidelines For Childrens Internet Safety

Children use the Internet as a valuable resource for schoolwork. They also use the Internet to communicate with others and to play games. Although the Internet can provide many positives for children, there are hazards as well.

Children often misspell words, and may type in a search term incorrectly. One letter typed incorrectly may bring up many different websites, some containing pornography. This is why parents or guardians need to supervise children when they use the Internet.

Predators know that kids may misspell words or that children may be curious. Adults need to speak to children about Internet safety and use all available protections to keep kids safe.  Any child old enough to put their fingers on a keyboard may be able to access inappropriate sites. By monitoring computer use and by speaking to children about online dangers, you are protecting your child from Internet predators.
